CPM worker injured in attack dies in Kannur
A 42-year-old CPI(M) worker, who was injured in an attack allegedly by BJP activists in neighbouring Kannur district, died Thursday.
Kozhikode: A 42-year-old CPI(M) worker, who was injured in an attack allegedly by BJP activists in neighbouring Kannur district, died Thursday.
Preman of Koothuparambu municipality, who sustained stab injuries in the attack last night while returning home after attending a marriage function died at the Thalassery cooperative hospital this morning, police said.
The CPI(M) has called for a hartal in Kannur district this afternoon to protest the attack.
Police said they were investigating whether the latest attack was a sequel to previous clashes involving CPI(M) and BJP workers for the last three weeks in the district.
A BJP panchayat president and two CPI(M) workers were seriously injured in separate incidents of attacks allegedly by rival party workers in Kannur yesterday.
Police said prohibitory orders have been clamped for 10 days in four panchayat limits in the district since yesterday.
The District Collector has convened an all-party meeting tomorrow in connection with the incidents.
