Cyber police warns people on fake SMS

The Cyber wing of Kerala police has cautioned people against the bogus SMSs to their phones claiming that they have won huge sum through mobile lottery draws.

Thiruvnanthapuram: The Cyber wing of Kerala
police has cautioned people against the bogus SMSs to their
phones claiming that they have won huge sum through mobile
lottery draws.

People should ignore such SMS and otherwise they would
lose money, the department said here today in a release.
Fake SMSs ask mobile customers to send a particular amount
to a bank account mentioned in the message to get the prize
money. Without knowing that it was fraud, many people used to
fall prey to such cheatings.
As foreigners were involved in such cases and majority of
such messages were sent from other countries, the state
police had limitations to take legal steps in these cases, the
police said in a release here.

The better way was to delete and ignore such messages,
cyber police sources said.
