Thiruvananthapuran: Kerala's Director General of Prosecution T Asafali on Wednesday ran into controversy by visiting the state Congress headquarters here, where meeting of the KPCC executive was scheduled to be held.

Asafali, who was a Congress leader from Kannur district and a political appointee as DG prosecution, visited the KPCC headquarters Indira Bhavan minutes before the party meeting was to begin.

CPI(M) polit bureau member and former Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the Asafali had committed a gross impropriety by visiting the Congress office.

He wanted Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to take steps to remove Asafali from the post in view of the "serious lapse" on his part.

Asafali said he had gone to the KPCC office to meet Chandy on an urgent official matter.

"I had gone there not to attend the party meeting. I wanted to meet the Chief Minister and I came to know that he would be at Indira Bhavan to attend the meeting. That is why I went there," Asafali told reporters.
