Experts to look into unethical clinical trials

Kerala govt has decided to constitute an expert committee to look into unethical clinical trials on patients.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government has decided to constitute an expert committee to look into charges that hospitals and private research centres in the state are carrying out unethical clinical trials on patients.

Health Minister V S Sivakumar has asked the health secretary to set up the committee to look into the matter, based on reports that some hospitals are carrying out clinical drug trials on patients without proper consent from patients, sources at his office said here on Friday.

Meanwhile, police sealed a private Health and Research Centre near the Medical College Hospital here after reports that more than 40 unauthorised medical tests were conducted there without mandatory sanction.
A group of activists of CPI`s youth outfit All India Youth Federation had staged a march to the Centre yesterday, demanding its closure.
