Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Forest Department
has completed survey for the proposed new dam at Mullaperiyar
in place of the century-old existing dam there, Water
Resources Minister N K Premachandran informed the state
Assembly on Thursday.
The minister disclosed this in a written reply.
At a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister V S
Achuthanandan here yesterday, it was decided to submit the
state government`s findings on the structural weakness of the
existing dam to the empowered committee appointed by the
Centre on the directive of the Supreme Court.
The meeting also decided to place before the Committee
the second part of the study by Indian Institute of
Technology, Roorkie, on the likely impact of earthquakes on
the existing dam.
