Thrissur: The dawn-to-dusk 12-hour hartal called by CPI(M) in Thrissur in protest against the murder of a party worker here paralysed normal life across the district on Monday.
Shops and commercial establishments remained closed in most parts of the district. However, services of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses were not affected. CPI(M) Thirunelloor branch committee M Shihab was hacked to death at Pavaratty Chukku Bazaar near Thrissur last night.
Party District Secretary A C Moideen alleged that RSS was behind the murder. He demanded strict police action against the culprits involved in the crime. PTI TGB APR A CPM worker was hacked to death by alleged RSS activists here on Sunday night.
The deceased is Mathilakath Shihab, who was a member of the CPM Thirunelloor branch committee. In protest against the murder, the CPM has decided to observe a hartal in Thrissur district on Monday. Shihab was attacked by a gang that came by a car by 8.30 p.M. Though he was rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to injuries there.
Shihab was an accused in the murder of an RSS worker which dates back to 2008. His brother was murdered by RSS activists. The CPM alleged that RSS is behind the murder of Shihab.
A CPM worker, who was undergoing treatment for the injuries he sustained in an attack, died here on Sunday. The deceased Mathilakath Shihab, belonging to Pavaratti, is CPM Thirunalloor branch committee member.
He is an accused in the murder of an RSS functionary in 2010. Meanwhile, the CPM has alleged that RSS workers are behind his murder. The party has also called for a hartal in Thrissur district on Monday to protest the murder.
