Malappuram (Ker): In a revelation that could
become a hot political topic when Kerala assembly polls are
round the corner, senior Indian Union Muslim League (IUML)
leader and former minister P K Kunhalikutty on Friday claimed that
he had been facing threat on his life from a close relative,
who had often sought to `blackmail` him to secure personal
interests by abusing the he offices he held.
In a surprise turn, Kunhalikutty told a press meet here
that he had information that he K A Rouf,his co-brother-in-
had plans to engage an underworld gang from Mangalore in
Karnataka to threaten him and even make an attempt on his
life.
In what could be an indication of the issue snowballing into
a poltical topic, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said the
charges and counter charges by the duo showed that "truth
can not be concealed for long."
On questions, if the Ice-cream parlour case would be
re-opened, Achuthanandan said " let more revelations come
out then, the government would decide what to do."
State General Secretary of the party, Kunhalikutty had
to resgin as Industries Minister in the UDF government in
after coming under the cloud of allegations in connection
with the sensational "Ice-cream Parlour" sex scandal case,
which was later discharged by the court for want of sufficient
evidence.
Kunhalikutty alleged that Rouf had sought to blackmail
him by making fake CDs during his days of trouble.
Rouf had been involved in many cases including land
grabbing and there had been reports of his utilising the
services of goons for pushing his interests, he alleged.
Hitting back at Kunhalikutty, Rouf said refuted all the
allegation levelled against him by Kunhalikutty were baseless.
Addressing a press meet in Kozhikode, he challenged the
IUML leader to prove that he (Rouf) was blackmailing him by
making fake CDs. "I had not made any CDs or do I have any
plans to make any CDs," he said.
On the allegation of hiring a criminal gang to carry out
his plans, Rouf said he had never contacted anyone during the
last two years and had not gone out of Kerala in the last one
year on a court restriction.
"Since an allegation has come out, it has to be proved,",
he said, adding " I am seriously considering to put in a
request to Chief minister of Kerala V S Achuthanandan to
conduct a enquiry and find out what is the truth."
Referring to the `Icecream Parlour` sex scandal case,
he alleged that `Kunhalikutty had given lakhs of rupees to
the witnesses in the case and that he had at his disposal all
records in this respect."
Asked what he thought promped kunhalikutty to come out
with such an allegation now, Rouf said ”what I feel is that
election is fast approaching and he may be worried that I
might say something. He wanted to block that`.
