Ker Govt files petition seeking more time to evict encroachers

The Kerala Government today filed a petition in the High Court seeking a further period of four months to evict encroachers from plantation estates in Wayanad.

Kochi: The Kerala Government today filed a
petition in the High Court seeking a further period of four
months to evict encroachers from plantation estates in
Wayanad.

In the petition filed on behalf of the government, Wayanad
Deputy Collector said due to law and order problem,
encroachers could not be evicted on time.

Encroachments, which are in plantation estates of Harrisons
Malayalam ltd and estate of one George Pothen, are in vast
areas and more time was needed, he submitted.

A Division Bench had two weeks ago directed authorities to
complete the eviction of the encroachers, including tribals,
within a month.

Challenging this decision, the state government had filed
an appeal in the Supreme Court which was dismissed. However,
the apex court had said government could seek more time from
the High Court to complete the eviction process.
