Kerala: Adequate security to be provided for elections

Coimbatore: Of the 818 polling stations in the
city, 83 have been identified as sensitive,a top police
official said on Wednesday.

Two CISF batallions had already reached and would be
deployed to the sensitive booths, including communally
sensitive, immediately, city Police Commissioner, C
Sylendra Babu said.
With regard to rural constituencies, a little over 1,100
paramilitary personnel and 1,400 police personnel from the
district, which has 2,156 polling booths, would be pressed
into service, N.Kannan, Superintendent of Police, said.

Stating that an additional 500 policemen would be required
for election duty, Kannan said 45 flying squads would be
formed in the district, with one check post being set up in
each police station limits.

During a videoconference held by State Chief Electoral
Officer, Praveen Kumar, District Collector P Umanath said
4,240 electronic voting machines and 2690 control units had
been kept ready.

Voters Identity cards have been issued to 3,81,192 electors
and cards would be issued to 15,528 voters soon, he said,
adding about 32,600 persons had applied for including their
names in the voters list.
The district has 10 constituencies, with three urban ones.

There are 20,02,858 voters.
