Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government on Saturday
asked Centre to reconsider its decision to ban export of rice
to make available rice to non-resident Keralities residing in
various foreign countries.

Centre should withdrew its ban on rice export in the
wake of complaint that NRK`s were not getting rice from the
state in many coutries, State Civil Supplies and Food Minister
C Divakaran said in a release on Saturday.

Divakaran said Centre has to take a policy decision to
allow export of rice from Kerala. Centre banned the export of
rice without consulting the state, he pointed out.

Centre should examine the proposal to allow rice export
through private rice mill owners, he said.

As far as Keralities are concerned rice is their staple
food wherever they live.
