Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday ordered an investigation into a media report that the Special Branch of the state police had allegedly drawn up a plan to hack the personal e-mail of some prominent Muslim leaders and cultural personalities in the state.

According to an official release, the Chief Minister has asked ADGP Sen Kumar to conduct an investigation into the matter.

A prominent Malayalam daily has reported that the SB-CID, the intelligence wing of the state police, had drawn up a list of 258 persons from the community for hacking, which included leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest partner in the ruling Congress-led UDF.

The report claimed that the police had sought to obtain from the service providers the password and log-in details of the persons in the list.

Alleging that it was an attempt at religious profiling, the report said, apart from political figures, the list also included mediapersons, professionals and students from the minority community.
