Kerala Cong issue: Decision on new minister after LDF meet

Kerala CM VS Achuthanandan Monday hinted that a decision on inducting Kerala Congress (J) rebel camper V Surendran Pillai into the cabinet would be taken only after a detailed discussions by the liaison committee of the LDF.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan Monday hinted that a decision on inducting Kerala Congress (J) rebel camper V Surendran Pillai into the cabinet in place of PJ Joseph, who was ousted from cabinet last week, would be taken only after a detailed discussions by the liaison committee of the LDF.

"The LDF did not discuss the issue", was Achuthanandan`s curt reply when reporters sought to know the chances of Pillai being taken into the cabinet.

Joseph was sacked from the cabinet by Achuthanandan on Saturday shortly after he announced his decision to resign as minister and quit the LDF for merger with opposition UDF ally Kerala Congress(M).

While Joseph and two other party MLAs favoured merger, Pillai joined the rebel camp led by former minister PC Thomas, which wanted the party to remain in the LDF.

Speculation is rife that Pillai would be rewarded with a ministerial berth for remaining in the LDF, and, possibly given the Public Works portfolio, which Joseph held in the ministry.
The issue would be coming up in the next meeting of the LDF state committee this week end.
