Kerala decide to set up internal security investigation branch

The Kerala government today decided to constitute an internal security investigation branch exclusively to probe terror-related cases.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government
today decided to constitute an internal security investigation
branch exclusively to probe terror-related cases.

The decision comes in the wake of chopping of the hand
of college lecturer T J Joseph on July 4, allegedly by
activists of Popular Front of India (PFI), a Muslim
fundamental group, and cutting of brake pipes of a stationary
passenger train at Nilambur in Mallpuram district last week.

Announcing the decision after a Cabinet meeting, Chief
Minister V S Achuthanandan said the new investigation team
would be headed by an officer in the rank of superintendent of
police.

It was also decided to create nine posts specially for
the team. Head of the internal investigation branch and its
modalities would be decided soon, he said.
