Kochi: Kerala High court today granted police protection to BSNL offices in the state from the 'blockade' planned by CPI(M) from today to March 12.

A Division bench, comprising Justice K M Joseph and Justice M L Joseph Francis, directed police to provide adequate protection to BSNL offices and see to it that the office staff and customers are not prevented access to BSNL offices during the protest.

Earlier, BSNL Ernakulam circle General Manager, N Haribabu approached the High Court complaining that the protest hindered their activities. According to BSNL, the blockade was against the central government. The BSNL is a company registered under the companies act, it was stated.

The state government informed the court that there was no blockade and about 200 policemen had been deployed.

The petitioner produced a photograph of the blockade at Ernakulam telephone exchange at 10 am today.
