Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday ordered status quo to be maintained till January 9 to Assistant Grade II appointments made in Kerala University in 2007.

The order was issued by Justice TR Ramachandran Nair on a petition by 31 persons who were among those appointed to the post.

They had approached the court challenging the Kerala Lok Ayukta decision to cancel their appointments citing irreregularities in conduct of examinations and interviews.

Upa Lok Ayukta G Sasidharan had on Dec 29 ordered cancellation of the rank list prepared after the interview for the post held in 2007. Many candidates who got low marks in the examinations found top places in the rank list after the interview, according to him.

The Upa Lok Ayukta had also recommended legal action against the then University Vice Chancellor MK Ramachandran Nair, pro-VC V Jayaprakash, syndicate members P S Rajeev, AA Rasheed, KA Andrew and MP Russell in the case.

About 150 employees, who got the postings been working in the University for the last four years. About 40,000 candidates had appeared for the examination to the post.

The court said statusquo should be maintained till monday when the case will be taken up again.
