Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Lok Ayukta on Monday asked Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan`s son VA Arun Kumar
and Opposition Congress leader Oommen Chandy to appear before
him in person on June 2 in connection with a petition filed by
the latter against Kumar.

The Lok Ayukta issued notices to Kumar and Chandy as
respondent and petitioner in the case, sources said.

Chandy had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister
last month levelling 11 charges against Kumar, an officer in
the state-run Institute of Human Resources Development in
Engineering (IHRDE).

Achuthanandan had forwarded the memorandum to the Home
Department for necessary action.

Some of the charges against Kumar are that he had tried
to sabotage a CBI probe into operations of other-state
lotteries, taken a bribe from sandalwood factory owners and
got enrolled for a PhD, allegedly with a bogus experience
certificate.

The opposition also wanted an inquiry into Kumar`s
foreign trips in his official capacity, reportedly without
proper permission from the authorities concerned.
