Thrissur: Opposition leader in the Kerala assembly V S Achuthanandan on Sunday demanded resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for reinstating IG Tomin J Thachankary, suspended by previous LDF government for violating service rules during his controversial foreign trip in 2010, in Government services.

Demanding immediate termination of Thachankary, who was recently appointed as MD of Marketfed, Achuthanandan told reporters here that Chandy has committed violation of oath of office by reinstating Thachankary.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) which had conducted probe against Thachankary on his visit to Qatar, had not given him a clean chit, Achuthanandan said.

However, the Chief Minister had given a wrong interpertation on what NIA had stated and reinstating Thachankary in services. Alleging that Thachankary had worked against State and Central Governments during his Qatar visit, Achuthanandan said the previous LDF Government headed by him had suspended Thachankary for violating service rules.

Union Home Ministry had directed state Government to initiate immediate action against Thachankary. A letter in this regard has being received by the State Government.
