Kannur: Claiming that Kerala's stand in favour of a new dam at Mullaperiyar was gaining acceptance, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Tursday said the state government will reply to the Supreme Court empowered committee this week on ownership mechanism for the proposed dam.

"Kerala has no hidden agenda on the Mullaperiyar dam issue," he asserted, a day after saying that the state was ready for joint control with Tamil Nadu and the Centre, if a new dam is built in place of the existing 116-year-old structure over which the two states are locked in a dispute.

He reiterated his stand that Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Centre could have joint control of the proposed dam on the lines of Parambikulam-Aliyar and Siruvani dam agreements.

The demand for the construction of a new dam initially had remained as a requirement of the state, but the demand has been discussed before the empowered committee, he said, adding, it was a recognition for the united stand taken by the people of Kerala and all political parties.

Inaugurating the Peoples' Mass Contact programme here. Chandy said after the completion of such programmes in all the 14 districts, a meeting of officials would be called as a follow-up action. Through the programme a large number of people could be given assistance, he said.

About 25,000 applications from the public had been received for consideration at the mass contact programme.

RADHAKRISHNAN NAIR.P.R. - THIRUVALLA, PATHANAMTHITTA DISTRICT
We have been giving water to the State of TN in these years. We never asked anything in return from TN, but the people and the Govt of TN forgot everything and attacked keralites in Tamil Nadu as well as in Kerala bordering TN. Still our Policemen and Govt including the people was watching everything silently. We can not tolerate anymore. We are ready to given water, but not free. The Dam is built in Kerala only and not in TN. It is the wish of Malayalees whether to give water to TN or not, if given on waht terms. The lesson we had learnt already, due to the legendary dynasty of travancore kongdom, they offered all these help. Please stop this. Built a new dam, maintain, control and safeguard it at our cost. Don`t ask TN or the union Govt. Now doubt, we can do this. If at all, people of TN request for water, we should have (people of Kerala) consenses on this. Then only we should give water, otherwise not. They (TN) and the Centre never bothered of the life of more than 5 laks people, near the dam. We must agitate our concern as we are not begging for something which is not ours.
