Thiruvananthapuram: Women campaigning for compensation to those affected due to spraying Endosulfan in plantations of Kasaragod district were arrested and removed from the Chief Minister's office in the Secretariat after they staged a dharna there seeking implementation of their demands.

Official sources said 15 women resorted to the stir after failure of talks with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on their demands, including waiver of debts to families of Endosulfan victims and rectification of 'anomalies' in compensation list of victims.

They said Chandy assured them that government would take a decision on waiver of debts after studying the issue and after holding talks with people’s representatives of the area.

However, leaders of the 'Endosulfan victims Action Committee' insisted he announce a decision on the matter today.

The women refused to leave the Chief Minister's chamber after Chandy left and staged a dharna, following which police arrived at the spot and removed them, the sources said.
