Thiruvananthapuram: Former state minister
and Kerala Congress (B) leader R Balakrishna Pillai, who
is serving jail term in a corruption case, will be contesting
the April 13 polls to the Kerala assembly as a UDF candidate.

The Steering Committee of KC (B), which met in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday,
decided to field Pillai from his pocket borough Kottarakkara
in Kollam district.

The party will also be putting up a dummy candidate to be
the party`s nominee in its traditional seat in case Pillai`s
nomination was rejected due to legal reasons.

The party also decided to re-nominate Pilla`s son and
cine actor Ganesh from his sitting seat Pathanapuram, also
in Kollam.

Pillai was lodged in the Central Prison here a month back
after the supreme court sentenced him to one year imprisonment
in the Edmalayalar corruption case.

The case pertained to alleged corruption in awarding contract
for construction of tunnel and surge shaft of the Edamalayar
Hydro Eelectric project in 1980s, when he was electricity
minister in the UDF government headed by late K Karunakaran.
