Palakkad: Stepping up attack on the LDF
Government over the tribal land grab scam at Attappady in
Palakkad, Congress-led UDF today said the state cabinet`s
decision to set up a high power official panel headed by Chief
Secretary to probe the issue was a ruse to cover up "the role
of higher ups in the issue."
The Government had overlooked the report of the district
collector which had found that large stretches of tribal and
forest land had been grabbed and transferred to a private
wind energy farm by forging documents with the collusion
of "higher-ups with political connections", UDF Convener P P
Thankachan told reporters here.
The constitution of the panel headed by Chief Secrertary
and comprising secretaries of departments concenerned was
meant to cover up the roles of people with high political
connections in the scam, Thankachan said.
He said the UDF would step up the agitation demanding
retrieval of alienated land. As part of this, a protest march
would be organised from Kottathara to Attppadi.
The scam pertained to alleged transfer of about 150 acres of
tribal land and 50 acres of forest land to a private company
operating a wind energy farm by forging bogus documents.
The opposition UDF had been highlighting the issue terming
it as the biggest land scam ever happened in the state.
