Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI(M)-led LDF
Opposition in Kerala Wednesday staged a walkout in the state
Assembly here in protest against alleged mass transfer of
government employees in violation of rules and guidelines.
The issue figured in the Assembly through an adjournment
motion notice moved by A K Balan (CPI-M) during zero hour.
Replying to the notice, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy
denied the Opposition charge and said his government had an
open mind on the issue and would look into the complaints
lodged by some employees.
The Government would also respect the High court order in
a related case, Chandy said.
Speaker G Karthikeyan disallowed the motion after the
Chief Minister`s reply.
Balan alleged that the Congress-led UDF government was
taking political vengeance on pro-LDF Union leaders working in
government organisations by transferring them in violation of
norms.
Before staging the walkout, Opposition leader V S
Achuthanandan said he welcomed the government`s gesture to
reconsider the transfers. However, he said his party was
staging the walkout in protest against the government`s
refusal to discuss the issue in the House.
