Chennithala on Tuesday alleged that the CPI(M), fearing an imminent
defeat of the LDF in the April 13 assembly polls, was
resorting to political violence in the state.
Referring to an attack, allegedly by CPI(M) activists, on
a Malayalam television channel reporter at Kannur yesterday,
Chennithala told reporters here that CPI(M) had not learnt any
lessons from the "repeated" defeats it has suffered.
Such incidents show that CPI(M) was challenging the legal
system in the state, he said, alleging that attack against
mediapersons, police stations and political leaders were being
carried out under the patronage of ruling parties.
Alleging that no developmental activities were undertaken
during the last five-years rule of LDF, he said the government
had taken Kerala 15 years backward in respect of development.
"UDF will religiously follow the election manifesto and try
to implement the promises in toto. Each year the progress of
implementation of the promises will be assessed," he said.
Alleging that there was unholy nexus between the CPI(M)
and BJP at Malampuzha, Chennithala alleged BJP had not fielded
their own candidate in the constituency from where Chief
Minister VS Achuthanandan is contesting.
"The nexus between CPI(M) and BJP, which was arrived at
during the recent civic polls, is continuing," he said.
Replying to a query on reported statement of senior
congress leader KK Ramachandran Master on "paid seats" and
criticisms of Chennithala and Opposition leader Oommen Chandy,
he said "if there are anti-organisation statements, it will
be examined and suitable action taken."
Chennithala claimed there was a favourable climate for
UDF across the state, "as people are disgusted with the
anti-people policies of the LDF government."
"LDF has nothing to project on its achievements during its
rule in the last five years and that is the reason their
leaders are raising a row over the use of helicopter by
Congress leaders," he said.
The helicopters had been brought to Kerala for use by
national leaders and there was nothing wrong in state leaders
using it for electioneering purpose, he said.
Pointing out that all political parties used helicopters
during elections, he said in West Bengal CPI(M) leaders also
used helicopters for campaigning.
There is a "standstill" with regard to development in the
state due to non-cooperation between the chief minister
and other ministers, he alleged.
