Legislation to lend statutory powers to Youth Board

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government was
planning a legislation to give a statutory back-up to the
State Youth Welfare Board, Law and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister M Vijayakumar said Saturday.

The legislation would ensure protection of the powers and
rights of the youth, he told reporters.

A Youth Commission would be constituted to co-ordinate
the activities of the Board, Vijayakumar said while announcing
the youth award for the year 2009.

Yuvarashmi arts and sports club, Sachivothamapuram,
Kottayam was selected as the best youth service organisation,
while M S Shafi of Kaniyapuram, Thiruvananthapuram got the
youth award for individuals.

District level awards were also announced to service
outfits and individuals. The awards would be distributed at a
function to be held at Mukhathala in Kollam on April 7, the
minister said.
