Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala`s anti-corruption
body Lok Ayukta on Wednesday decided to issue notices to former Chief
Minister and CPI(M) leader V S Achuthanandan and his son V A
Arun Kumar on a private petition against them.
The petitioner alleged that the duo had caused loss to the
exchequer by sending Motor Vehicle Inspectors and Assistant
Motor Vehicle Inspectors for a training programme to the
Institute of Human Resources Development, a state-controlled
autonomous institution in which Kumar holds a key position.
The notice was issued by a division bench of Lok Ayukta,
comprising Justices Pareeth Pillai and K K Dinesan in the
sitting in Kozhikode on a petition filed by Socialist Yuva
Janata secretary Salim Madavoor.
The petitioner alleged the duo caused loss to the
exchequer by sending a batch of MVIs and AMVIs to a training
programme to IHRD.
IHRD charged Rs 2,500 per head for the programme offered
by the Model Finishing School of IHRD, while the same
programme was available free of cost at the Institute of
Management in Government here, he said.
The petitioner said officials were sent for training when
Achuthanandan was in charge of the Transport department for an
interim period after resignation of Mathew T Thomas of Janata
Dal(S) as transport minister.
Lok Ayukta also sent notice to then Transport Commissioner
K G Prem Shankar. They have been asked to respond to the
notice by July 21.
