Bangalore: Major General KS Venugopal on Friday
assumed charge as General Officer Commanding (Karnataka and
He took over from Major General AK Pradhan who is
proceeding on an instructional assignment.
Venugopal, a 1976 batch officer commissioned in the Jat
Regiment, told reporters he would work on improving
civil-military relationship, the quality of life of the
serving soldiers and their families and enhancing welfare
measures for ex-servicemen.
In his previous appointment, Venugopal was responsible for
the logistics aspects of the Southern Army Command which
resulted in the successful culmination of largescale exercise
On encroachment of defence land, Venugopal said Karnataka
and Kerala governments had been positive agreeing to give
alternative land to the Army in case of encroachment.
"Our aim is to amicably solve the disputes. But in case of
individual encroachments, we are seeking justice through legal
means," he said but added there were no major encroachments
and they were only isolated in Bangalore.
