Kalpetta: A 46-year-old man burnt his
two minor daughters alive and set himself ablaze allegedly
in a drunken state at Nellimalam in Kerala`s Wayand district
Sunday night.

According to police, Benny, a daily wage earner, doused
with kerosene his daughters Amaya (3) and Amala (5) and
torched them, after which he set himself ablaze.

While the younger girl and the man died on the spot, Amala
succumbed to burns at the Medical College Hospital in
Kozhikode, to where she was rushed by local people who broke
into the house seeing the flame inside.

Neighbours said Benny committed the shocking deed when his
wife and her third child, a one-and-a-half year old boy, had
gone to her brothers` home to complain of the rude behaviour
of her husband.

They said the man used to drink heavily and indulge in
domestic quarrels frequently. Some people in the area said
yesterday they heard him uttering that he would commit suicide
after killing his kids.

Benny, who hails from Ranni in Pathanamthitta district,
had come to Wayanad seven years back in search of job. He
married a woman from the district and settled down as a
daily wage worker.
