Missing Kerala woman activist found dead: Police

A woman activist fighting against alleged illegal quarrying was Monday found dead in an abandoned well near here, two months after she had gone missing, police said.

Kannur: A woman activist fighting against alleged illegal quarrying was Monday found dead in an abandoned well near here, two months after she had gone missing, police said.

The decomposed body of K Kamalakshi (45) was recovered by a special investigating team constituted to inquire into her mysterious disappearance after she left home to attend a woman`s gathering on February 28, they said.

Following a complaint to Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan that inquiry into the woman`s disappearance was not progressing, state police chief had constituted the SIT.

The woman`s relatives expressed apprehension that she might have been murdered as Kamalakshi was in the forefront against alleged illegal quarrying.
The body has been shifted to Pariyaram Medical College hospital for post mortem, they said.
