Mohiniyattam dancer to make another attempt to break record

Noted Mohiniyattam dancer `Kalamandalam` Hemalatha would make a second attempt at Guinness World Record in Mohiniyattam by performing continuously for 120 hours or more.

Thrissur: Noted Mohiniyattam dancer
`Kalamandalam` Hemalatha would make a second attempt at
Guinness World Record in Mohiniyattam by performing
continuously for 120 hours or more.

A fellow in `Mohiniyattam` from the Union Ministry of
Human Resource Development, Hemalatha said here today that
her performance would begin on the late evening of Sept 20 at
the K T Muhammad Smaraka Theatre of the Kerala Nadaka
Sangeetha Academy here.

The dancer said her objective was to break the existing
record of performing Mohiniyattam for 108 hours continously
held by Dr Vattikotta Yadagiri Acharya of Hyderabad since
2008.

The danseuse had earlier made an attempt to break the
record on June 6 this year aiming to dance continuously for
120 hours, but was forced to stop after 64 hours. She said she
had developed some `uneasiness` following diet restrictions.

Hemalatha said she was now following a diet prescribed by
expert dieticians and was confident of attaining her feet.

She has over 20 years of experience in performing arts,
the Organising Committee General convener M C Thaikad said.
She had performed dances in India and abroad and brought
laurels to the Kerala Kalamandalam and recognition to the
temple arts of Kerala.
