Chennai: DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday accused Kerala of adopting a
stand contrary to that prescribed by the Supreme Court on the
Mullaperiyar dam standoff and said it was unfair.
Tamil Nadu was only undertaking routine maintenance work
and that too as per the guidelines of the apex court, he said
in a statement here.
He charged the Kerala government with "planting stories in
the media" exaggerating the routine work undertaken by the
Tamil Nadu was only removing the sand bars and bushes in
the outlets of the dam, besides undertaking some painting
work, he said, adding the Supreme Court had allowed these to
"Any old dam`s life can be prolonged only if it is
retrofitted," he said.
