Kochi: The School for Naval Airmen (SFNA) has begun functioning from its new building here after renovations were carried out to cater to the modern training requirements of the alma mater of all Naval aviators.

The building at the Naval base, renovated to cater to modern training requirements, was inaugurated yesterday by Vice Admiral K N Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Naval Command.

Facilities include air handling, survival and safety equipment training, aerial photography, motor transport driving, airmanship and flight safety, a navy press release said.

The new building has 15 sound proof and networked classrooms, an advanced aerial photography laboratory and state-of-the-art training aides.

Commander Ashutosh Sharma is the Officer in Charge of SFNA, it said

SFNA, set up in 1957, trains about 2000 Naval personnel every year, including trainees from friendly foreign countries.
