Kozhikode: A 41-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team arrived here at the request of the state government which sought assistance for relief works
during the monsoon season.
Commander Deepak Dev, who heads the team, said they are equipped with sophisticated disaster management equipment for flood rescue and relief management, rope rescue and chemical, biological, nuclear and radiological calamities.
"The NDRF members are specially trained in rescue works during flash foods and other such calamities. We will set up camp at the Urban Agricultural wholesale market at nearby Vengeri," Dev said.
District Collector P B Salim, who had visited the camp, said the government had acquired two acres of land at nearby Ambayathodu for a permanent regional camp.
