NIA submits FIR in two fake currency cases

Kochi: The National Investigation Agency has filed its First Information Report in two fake Indian currency note cases listing 10 persons as accused.

The FIR was filed yesterday before the CBI special court here.

The agency had investigated the seizure of fake currencies with a face value of rs 72.50 lakh and rs 24.16 lakh from Kozhikode and Kochi airports in 2008.The FIR was filed against nine persons in the Kozhikode airport seizure and one in connection with the seizure at the Kochi airport.

The counterfeit notes were seized on August 16, 2008 from one Mohammed Alshab who arrived at the Kozhikode airport from Ras Al Khaima, while in the second case the fake currencies were seized from K Gopinatha who had flown in from Dubai.

The NIA was directed by the Union government to probe the case as the accused had international connections and the main supplier of the fake currency notes was abroad.
