Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has not imposed a ban on fresh recruitment as alleged by the opposition and in fact created more than 13,000 new posts, especially in the police and health sector, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Monday.

"Raising the employees' retirement age is not the government policy and any decision in this regard will be taken only after taking the youth into confidence by holding discussions with youth organisations," he said while replying to a calling attention moved by T V Rajesh (CPI-M).

The Opposition is trying to create fear among youth with their statements saying that the government is planning to raise the retirement age of employees, Chandy said.

The Chief Minister said the number of persons who got employment in government services through the Public Service Commission was 'unprecedented'.

The UDF government raised the retirement age from 55 to 56 after coming to power last year.

Rajesh alleged that government plans to further increase the retirement age which would result in serious consequences in a state which is already facing very high unemployment.
