Kochi: Election Commission of India on Wednesday
informed the Kerala High court that bypoll to the Piravom
Assembly constituency will be conducted by April 30.
According to the commission as per provisions of the
Representation of People Act, six months time was available
for declaring election to a vacant seat.
Recording the submission, Justice S Sirijagan closed the
petition by KK Joy, a voter of the constituency, who
complained of political malafides in not conducting the bypoll
in time.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of T M
Jacob, Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader and minister on October
30 last year.
