Kochi: The Kerala Bar Council on Sunday urged
President Pratibha Patil to order a probe into alleged
amassing of wealth disproportionate to their known sources of
income by relatives of former CJI K G Balakrishnan.
Passing a unanimous resolution to this effect at its
meeting here, the Bar Council said, "Such an inquiry is needed
to bring out the truth."
The Bar Council is the apex body of all Bar Associations
and advocates in Kerala.
Earlier Bar Associations of Kozhikode and Trichur had
demanded that Justice Balakrishnan resign and face an inquiry.
Media reports had alleged that Justice Balakrishnan`s two
sons-in-law P V Sreenijan and Benny and his younger brother K
G Bhaskaran had amassed properties in various parts of Kerala.
Sreenijan, an advocate and Youth Congress worker had
resigned from the party after an explanation was sought from
him. A vigilance probe is on against Sreenijan, who
unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly polls on a Congress
Bhaskaran, a senior government pleader, who was looking
after various cases of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
resigned on health grounds after the Advocate General asked
him to demit office or go on leave.
