Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday
directed the state Director General of Prosecutions to provide
within three days a copy of the charge sheet in the Paul
Muthoot George murder case to M G George Muthoot.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice S R
Bannurmath and Justice A K Basheer issued the direction on a
petition filed by George Muthoot seeking a CBI probe into his
son`s murder as he was not satisfied with the police
investigation.
A copy of the charge sheet was produced in the court
today, complying with its December 2 directive.
Paul, executive director of the Muthoot group, a
leading business conglomerate in Kerala with interest in
several areas including financing and hospitality industry,
was killed by a gang on August 21.
When Director General of Prosecutions V G Govindan
Nair strongly opposed the direction to furnish a copy to
George, the bench wanted to know why he was `shying from
giving a copy to the complainant`.
Nair said the law did not provide for giving a copy to
the complainant.
The bench said the father of the victim had raised
some questions. "He should not got out with a feeling that
justice is denied."
The court also asked the director not to `hang on to
technicalities`. The petition has been posted to December 14
next for further consideration.
