Salesman VS: Kerala CM promotes coir products

Thiruvananthapuram: To promote coir products, one of the major traditional industries of Kerala, state Chief Minister and veteran CPI-M leader V S Achuthanandan himself became salesman by marketing the products through door to door campaign in his home town Alappuzha.

Achuthanandan, who was camping at the guest house in the port town of Alappuzha yesterday found time to join the coir development Directorate's campaign of 'one coir product in each home' by visiting few houses near the guest house at Kallapura area of Alappuzha.

Along with State Minister for Co-operation and Coir G Sudhakaran and other officials of Coir Department, Chief Minister sold coir mattings in six houses worth Rs.17,000.

Chief Minister inaugurated the state wide function of 'one coir product at each home' at the guest house.

Earlier this month, State Finance Minister T M Thomas Issac also marketed coir products through door to door campaign in Alappuzha.

As part of the coir product campaign, state government is observing this year as 'Coir year' by orgainising various events to promote coir in the domestic as well as in international market.
