Kochi: Thirty-seven Sri Lankan Tamils, who
were trying to go to Australia by boat from here, were
arrested from two places in Ernakulam district on Monday, police
said.
Aluva SP Harshita Attaluri said that while 28 Lankan
Tamils were arrested from Kothamangalam, others were picked up
from Thadiyettaparambu.
They had come to Kerala from a refugee camp in Tamil Nadu
and had allegedly been cheated by some agents who had promised
to take them by boat to Australia, she said.
"They are being questioned", she said.
