State seeks World Bank aid for dam modernisation

Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac has said the government has approached the World Bank for a financial assistance of Rs 350 crore for modernising the dams through de-silting.

has said the government has approached the World Bank for a
financial assistance of Rs 350 crore for modernising the dams
through de-silting.

Speaking at a function here yesterday, he said over five
lakh cubic metres of sand had been desilted from Malampuzha
dam during the past few months.

Isaac said the Taxes Department was optimistic of earning
150 per cent increase in commercial taxes collection. "We have
already registered an increase of 135 percent and I am sure we
will attain the golden figure of 150 percent this year", the
minister said.
