Thiruvanathapuram: The Kerala Police has more to worry about the growth of Left Wing extremism in Kerala after suspected Maoists attacked a private quarry-cum-crusher in Kannur district early on Friday.
The ultras attacked the office of the quarry at around 2:30 am today morning. They tied up the guard and then vandalised the premises and later set it ablaze.
The group comprising of one woman and four men pasted Maoist posters in the area before disappearing into nearby forests.
Importantly, the ultras took away the CCTV cameras installed in the office with them. The guard later told the police that they were wearing military fatigue and raised pro-Maoist slogans.
Today's attack is the fifth incident related to Maoist activity in the state in the last two months.
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that the attack appears to be the handiwork of pro-Maoists.
Chennithala asked the people not to panic and assured that the state government will take strict action against Maoists.
