Teacher held as question paper sparks protest by Muslim groups

The lecturer of a private college, who prepared a controversial question paper which hurt religious sentiments of Muslims, was arrested today, police said.

Idukki: The lecturer of a private
college, who prepared a controversial question paper which
hurt religious sentiments of Muslims, was arrested today,
police said.

T J Joseph, a Malayalam lecturer at Newman College in
Thodupuzha, had been absconding after his question paper for
an internal examination provoked Muslim outfits who took out
protest demonstrations in Thodupuzha town last week.

A case was registered against him and the police had
issued a look-out notice to trace him. He was suspended from
the college after the issue set off a row in the state.

The controversial paper had appeared in the internal
examination of B.Com II semester. College authorities had
apologised for the mistake and took action against him.

Prohibitory orders were enforced in Thodupuzha for about
a week to prevent violent protests.
