Thousands pay homage to CPI stalwart Chandrappan

Leaders from various political parties and people from all walks of life on Friday paid homage to veteran CPI leader CK Chandrappan.

CK Chandrappan.

The mortal remains of the leader would be laid to rest at
`Valiaya Chudukadu` - the final resting place of many
Communist veterans and martyrs of the Punnapra Vayalar
uprising.

Kerala state secretary of CPI and veteran Parliamentarian,
Chandrappan (76) died yesterday after undergoing treatment for
cancer for the last few months.

The body of the departed leader was taken from the state
capital in a special carriage to his home town Cherthala this
morning and thousands paid homage to him on the way.

Besides Bardhan, CPI leaders Gurudas Dasgupta, Sudhakar
Reddy, D Raja, Union Minister KC Venugopal and CPI(M) state
secretary Pinarayi Vijayan paid tribute to Chandrappan, who
had been a dominant figure of the Indian Left for the last
several decades.
