Thrissur: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old woman was raped in a moving train and is suspected to have been thrown out by the rapist after the crime.

The guard of the Ernakulam-Shornur passenger train informed the railway police that a woman had fallen from the Erankulam-shornur train last night following which a search was made and the woman was found lying on the tracks, between Vallatholnagar and shornur stations at 2130 hrs, police sources said.

The woman, Sowmya, who was rushed to the Thrissur medical college hospital by the police escort vehicle of Revenue minister K P Rajendran, is in a 'very critical' condition.

Dr V K Mohanan, Supertendent of the hospiatl told PTI said the woman was raped and her condition was 'very critical'. She had head injuries, a fractured Skull, bleeding in the brain and was on the ventilator.

Dr Mohanan said most of her injuries were on the face and hand and this could be because she was thrown from the train. Normally, when a person jumps from the moving train, the injuries are on the legs.

Police said a man entered the empty compartment as the train left the station at vallatholnagar.

Police is also verifying if she jumped or was pushed out from the running train by the man, who got into the compartment.

Sowmya, was employed at Kochi in a private firm and was on her way to home at Manjakad near Shornur. Sowmya was coming home in connecion with a marriage proposal.

When contacted, the Vallathol Nagar Railway Station sources said the woman was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries in an unconscious state from 400 meters away fom the station late last night.

The woman's compartment is usually almost empty after the train leaves Thrissur. There were no railway guard or policemen in the compartment.

What this scoundrel has done is henious. There is no mercy for the atrocity he has comitted.
But at the same time, women who are travelling single should be more vigilant & careful to avoid using trains at night...it`s better to travel in daytime when there is crowd. The government must wake up from their slumber & punish severely those who commit such crimes.
What the heck is Raliways minister doing??
Isn`t she a woman to take up these causes & to come up with protection laws?
I have witnessed the cops who do travel in the trains as their part of duty have their nappy time from destination to destination!!How pathetic is our government.

Shame on the railway minister for such poor arrangements for the fair sex when she is also a woman. Madam ji jaago or go back to opposition which suits to shouting people like you. I guess Baba Ramdev`s philosophy of justice is right...Capital punishment for Rapists, Corruption and Adultration.
