Haridwar: The numbers of the devout thronging the Maha Kumbh Mela that began here today appear to be a matter of guess for mela administrators as well as hordes of journalists, who are here to cover the largest religious congregation.
The administration which is expecting about six crore people to participate in the Kumbh by April 14, the day when it ends, has been churning out one figure after another within a short span of time.
Though, there was only a thin line of people in the wee hours today because of the severe cold conditions, the number slowly rose up as the day progressed.
The mela officials, off the record, too were expecting a lower turnout than the official figures being churned out by them.
