Anjali Gupta death case: Amit Gupta denied bail
IAF Group Captain Amit Gupta was arrested in connection with alleged suicide by former Flying Officer Anjali Gupta.
Bhopal: A local court on Friday rejected the bail application of suspended IAF Group Captain Amit Gupta, arrested in connection with alleged suicide by former Flying Officer Anjali Gupta, on the ground that charges against him are of serious nature.
Amit was arrested by the Bhopal Police last week in connection with the death of by Anjali at the former`s residence here.
The plea was rejected by Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Kumar Sarriya who said the charges against Amit are of serious nature and if released on bail he may try to tamper with evidence against him as the investigations are still on.
Anjali, the first lady officer to be court-martialled by IAF, arrived here on September 07 and stayed at Amit`s residence. On September 08, Amit had left for Delhi to take part in his son`s engagement ceremony after which she allegedly hanged herself, apparently due to depression.
Her family members told the police that she was in a live-in relationship with Gupta for the past few years. Amit was separated from his wife but had not yet divorced her.
They also alleged that at the behest of Amit, she had levelled charges of sexual harassment against her seniors in the IAF, which ultimately proved false and led to her dismissal from service in February 2006.
Anjali was found guilty on seven counts, including indiscipline, insubordination and financial misappropriation.
