Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries Arun Yadav on Tuesday demanded a Central government probe in the alleged scam totalling over Rs 200 crore in the name of waiver of loans to farmers in Madhya Pradesh.

Bhopal: Union Minister of State for Heavy
Industries Arun Yadav on Tuesday demanded a Central government
probe in the alleged scam totalling over Rs 200 crore in the
name of waiver of loans to farmers in Madhya Pradesh.

In a letter to Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, UPA
Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Union Agriculture Minister,
Sharad Pawar, Yadav demanded a high level probe from a team of
Central Government in the alleged scam of Rs 200 crore
committed in the name of waiver of farm loans, a release
issued by the Minister said.

Yadav alleged that the BJP supported chairman and
directors of Cooperative Banks, in connivance with the bank
officials, have allegedly waived-off loans of ineligible
persons by showing them as farmers under the scheme while the
actual farmers were still deprived of the benefits.

The Central Government had provided Rs 914 crore to the
state government for waiving-off loans of farmers of Madhya
Pradesh and the latter has transferred the above money to the
district cooperative banks for implementation of the scheme,
the Minister said.

However, the bank officials in connivance with the ruling
BJP supported chairman and directors waived-off the loans of
large number of ineligible persons by showing them as farmers
at the cost of real farmers, he said.
