New Delhi: A group of Bhopal gas tragedy survivors Monday staged a demonstration in front of North Block office of Home Ministry where the meetings of Group of Ministers on the issue was taking place.

The group `Bhopal Gas Peedit Nayay Morcha` reached the high-security zone minutes after the meeting of the Group was over this morning.
The group was demanding adequate compensation to the victims of 26-year-old worst industrial disaster in which thousands were killed and several thousand others maimed.

The demonstration led by Abdul Nafis, a survivor of the tragedy, caught security personnel off-guard as the children and adults were carrying placards before the Home Ministry where any kind of protest or demonstration is banned.

The GoM, which concluded its three-day deliberations, is believed to have decided to make fresh efforts for the extradition of former Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson and to come up with a "clean up" project at the gas plant site in Bhopal to bury toxic material there.

The GoM, headed by Home Minister P Chidambaram, discussed various issues relating to criminal and civil liability, relief and rehabilitation and remediation in the
wake of the Bhopal court verdict in the case two weeks ago.
The report is to be presented to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who reconstituted the GoM in the wake of nationwide outrage over the light punishment given to the
accused. The Union Cabinet will meet on Thursday to consider the GoM recommendations, sources said.
