A BJP nominee for civic polls had a narrow escape when he was shot at by two unidentified masked men under Chandan Nagar police station area here, police said on Wednesday.

Indore: A BJP nominee for civic polls had a narrow escape when he was shot at by two unidentified masked men under Chandan Nagar police station area here, police said on Wednesday.

Two masked motorbike-borne persons fired upon the BJP candidate Zafar Khan at lane no 4 of Chandan Nagar when he was contacting people for an election meeting last night. The bullet didn't hit Khan who is running corporator polls from ward number 2 but left him terrified, Chandan Nagar Police station in charge Inspector Vinod Dixit said.

Khan fell to the ground after his blood pressure shot up and passers-by anticipating that he had been injured rushed him to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital. Doctors after examining him said that the bullet hadn't hit him.

The Inspector said that security has been ramped up in the Chandan Nagar area, adding that efforts are on to identify attackers and nab them after registering a case against them.
