Indore: Describing the Rs 425 crore relief
package to Madhya Pradesh farmers by the Centre as `inadequate
and injudicious`, the state unit of the BJP today said the
meagre amount was an insult to those cultivators whose crops
were damaged by cold wave conditions.
"The state government had sought Rs 2,400 crore from the
Centre for farmers whose crops have been damaged by frost and
cold wave but the Central government has sanctioned an amount
which was inadequate, injudicious and an insult to farmers,"
Madhya Pradesh BJP Chief Prabhat Jha said in a statement.
Jha said the Central government relief package to the
farmers was meant to break the hunger strike of Madhya Pradesh
Congress President Suresh Pachouri yesterday.
Last night, Minister of State in Prime Minister Office V
Narayan Sami came down to Bhopal and announced the relief
package to farmers after which Pachouri broke his
five-day-long hunger strike against the state government over
farmer problems. Sami was accompanied by AICC General
Secretary Hari Prasad.
